Andrew Clark, HBAV VP Government Affairs

HBAV’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Andrew Clark, was interviewed by David Holtzman at Homes.com for a story on what may lie ahead for new housing in Virginia following the election of Abigail Spanberger as Governor.

In the article, titled “Virginia governor-elect Spanberger aims to use carrots, not sticks to build support for new housing,” Clark cites the “dire need to get more units on the ground” while sharing the builder perspective on state and local government balancing their authorities to both incentivize and regulate land use and home building.

“It’s setting guardrails so there’s predictability for developers as they go through the process,” Clark said to Homes.com. “Any developer wants to know exactly how to get to yes.”

Another role the state can play to promote construction, Clark offered, is through the state building code, considering its effects on homeownership and how certain requirements contribute to making homes out of reach for some Virginians.

The story was published on November 20. Check out the full article: Virginia governor-elect Spanberger aims to use carrots, not sticks to build support for new housing – Homes.com
