The Virginia General Assembly meets once a year…but the legislative work goes on year-round.

Our own Andrew Clark sat down with Radio IQ/WVTF Public Radio‘s Brad Kutner to talk housing and offer a preview of what Virginians might see when legislators return to Richmond in January.

With HBAV’s advocacy, Virginia made recent legislative moves that are helping on housing affordability (tax credits, EDAs grants), but builders say more is needed — especially to lower major cost hurdles, simplify and speed up permitting, and bring more consistency in zoning and regulations. The stage is being set for the 2026 session to push these next steps.

Here’s more on improvements made to the home-building and development process in 2025 and what’s to come in ’26.
