The Home Builders Association of Virginia (HBAV) raised $45,350 for its education foundation during a live auction held at the 2025 Annual Conference & Housing Excellence Awards in June.
Among the highlights was the return of the limited-edition Education Foundation hats, which sparked a fast-paced bidding frenzy. Auctioned at $100 each, the hats alone generated $11,200. This year, proceeds from the hats will support the foundation’s statewide workforce development initiatives.

Two Teacher of the Year finalists were recognized during the event: Bradley Bryant of Valley Career and Technical Center and Jim Wissler of Build Smart Institute. Bryant was named this year’s Teacher of the Year. The award honors an educator’s commitment to student success, ability to inspire careers in the building trades, and contributions to construction workforce development.
The auction and awards are part of the foundation’s ongoing mission to invest in the next generation of construction professionals. Funds raised support scholarships, training, apprenticeships, educational programs, and more that prepare individuals for skilled careers.
“Virginia, like the rest of the country, faces a shortage in home-building talent,” said Justin Boyle of Green Valley Builders and chair of the HBAV Education Foundation. “We want to make sure that young people who want to join our industry don’t face barriers to getting there. Through the foundation, we provide funding and scholarships to grow the home building industry’s labor force — and knowledge — across the commonwealth.”

The auction was sponsored by Cardinal Solutions Group.
