RICHMOND, VA (JUNE 10, 2025) — A condominium community in Midlothian, a Richmond-area builder, a well-regarded Northern Virginia mortgage professional, and a steadfast home building partner in Hanover County are among the many honorees named by the Home Builders Association of Virginia’s 2025 Housing Excellence Awards.

The 24 total awards recognize and highlight members’ professional achievements, as well as housing projects completed by member organizations.

Craig Toalson, HBAV CEO

“With the Home Builders Association of Virginia Housing Excellence Awards, we celebrate the individuals and companies who are setting the standard for innovation, leadership, and community impact in Virginia’s home building industry,” said Craig Toalson, CEO of the Home Builders Association of Virginia (HBAV). “This year’s honorees exemplify what it means to build not just homes, but stronger communities across the Commonwealth. Their dedication, creativity, and service reflect the very best of our industry.”

Winners were announced on June 5 at the HBAV Annual Conference & Housing Excellence Awards at The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va. Awards were judged by members across Virginia, including remodelers, land developers, multifamily builders and suppliers, trade partners, custom, and volume single-family builders.

Among the top honors:

Community of the Year: Wescott by HHHunt

Wescott by HHHunt, HBAV’s 2025 Community of the Year.

Located off Hull Street in Midlothian, Wescott by HHHunt is a standout residential development recognized for its strategic housing options, innovative design, and strong community engagement. The community features a cohesive layout with green spaces, trails, parks, and The Connexion clubhouse, offering modern amenities like conference rooms, outdoor kitchens, and entertainment spaces. Architecturally, Wescott breaks from convention with bold, contemporary townhome and condo designs that balance individuality with a unified aesthetic. A targeted marketing strategy using digital media and lifestyle events effectively connected with first-time buyers — and downsizers. Surpassing sales expectations, Wescott reflects a deep understanding of market needs and delivers a vibrant, low-maintenance lifestyle.

“As a company, we put a lot into our local home building association in Richmond, our communities, and the building world as a whole,” Craige Shelton, director of development at HHHunt Communities, said after receiving the award. “This is a reflection of all the hard work that our team puts in. We put a lot of pride into what we do.”

A board member for the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association and HBAV, she is an advocate for women in the building industry and has racked up numerous accolades for top performance and leadership. A frequent conference panelist, major sponsor, and generous donor, Doug exemplifies leadership through action. Even amid personal hardship, he has remained a steady force for good among his peers.
